CHOOSING THE RIGHT COMPANY FOR YOUR NEEDS:

It is true that most restoration companies out there carry some form of certification, in most cases when an employee leaves the company the employee takes the certification with him, as the certification is to certify a person to do a job.

In other States a Simple Certification would qualify someone to do Restoration work, here in California that is NOT the case and a certification is not necessary to do any type of Water Damage Related work.

In California important cerfications are given through the State itself, as it is done for Lead Abatement for example. There are other certification such as the one for Asbestos that carry much more weight. Even then an individual or company certified for Asbestos removal COULD NOT do the work with out having the State given LICENSE first and foremost.

So first make sure that for Water Damage contractor IS licensed, certification is but secondary.

"In Water Damage a certification is NOT required to obtain a license. Certifications, in the norm are issued by testors or trainers. A certification simply states one has done training in the industry. A license is a lawful grant from the State to practice what one is certified for."
